Our Strategy : Conclusion

The enterprise data warehouse is a different construct from that obtained by combining the atomic level data sources that exist in an organisation. By concentrating on this difference, it is possible to define and implement an enterprise data warehouse with an efficiency and usefulness that would not be available if one simply relied on a central consolidation of operational system data or line of business data marts.

The enterprise warehouse process is structured around an enterprise-defined corporate business strategy which is in its turn used to define an enterprise entity model for data warehousing.

From the enterprise entity model the database design and exploitation phases can be defined. By forcing the use of an enterprise data warehouse - specific metabase we facilitate the ease of use of, and correct use of, the enterprise data warehouse while at the same time preserving great flexibility in the structuring of the database and its contents.
